If the Immigration Officer is satisfied, you may be granted leave to enter for up to 6 months as a prospective student.

Once you are enrolled you will then be able to extend your stay as a student. You should be able to do this without leaving the country. It is important that you do not enter as a visitor – see below:
Changing Status.
If you are student with a Visa you should never try to enter as a visitor if you intend to become a student. Visa national students cannot change from visitor to student status in the UK.
At the port of entry
On arrival in the UK you will pass through either a checkpoint for British and EU passport holders or one for other passport holders.
The Immigration Officer will need to be satisfied about the points previously mentioned. Make sure you have in your hand luggage and all the documentation previously mentioned.
If you are refused entry
If you have no entry clearance and the Immigration Officer refuses to allow you to enter, you may be removed immediately or you may possibly be given a very short period of temporary admission. If this happens, you should seek help from: The Immigration Advisory Service at http://www.iasuk.org or Joint Council for the welfare of immigrants at www.justask.org.uk or Contact the School, College or University who will be able to put you in touch with someone who can help you.

Once the Immigration Officer has decided that you can be admitted to the UK, your passport will be stamped with the conditions of entry
These items include:
• Whether you have to register with the Police
• The limit of your stay in the UK
• Whether you can take employment
Please check the stamp in your passport carefully. If you have any doubts or questions please contact Language School, College or University immediately.
Police Registration
Non Commonwealth and non-EEA students may be told by the Immigration Officer at the port of entry into the UK to register with the police. A stamp will be put in your passport confirming this.
If you are instructed to register, you should do so at the Foreign Nationals’ Registration Office in the area of your stay. You will need to take your passport, two passport sized photographs and the registration fee, which is £34.00 per person. The Foreign Nationals’ Offices is open:
Monday to Thursday 09:00-13:00 and 14:00-16:30
Friday 09:00-13:00 and 14:00-15:30.
You must register within 7 days of the stamp being put in your passport..
