Police Registration
Following registration with the police it is very important to remember to tell the police if you change your address in the UK.
You should also inform them when you leave the UK to return home
Extension of permission to stay in the UK
On entry in the UK, your passport will be stamped with the period during which you have permission to stay. It is important that you check the final date. If you need to extend your permission in order to continue your studies, you must apply by completing form FLR(S) (Further Leave to Remain as a Student). If you wish to stay on for the purpose of graduation or other, you will need to complete the form FLR (O). Both forms will be available from your Programme Administrator, who will also be able to advise you about which is the most appropriate application form for you.
You must apply at least two months before the leave to remain expires. The Home Office will not accept applications more than two months before your leave runs out.
If you wish to make the application in person, the public enquiry office in Croydon is open:
Monday to Friday (excluding Public Holidays) 09:00-16:00.
The nearest railway stations are East and West Croydon. It is advisable to arrive early as there are usually long queues.

Note that if you apply in person your application will not be considered more than one month before the expiry date, also, some applications may not be dealt with on the day.
If you wish to send your application, make sure that you take a photocopy of all the documents you send, including your passport. Send it by post (recorded or registered delivery) to the Immigration and Nationality Directorate in Croydon (postal address at www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk
If for any reason you wish to phone the Home Office ensure you have the following:
• Home Office reference number (where applicable)
• Details of your application
• Your name, date of birth and nationality
You will need to be patient as the lines are invariably very busy.
Travelling outside the UK
Re-entry visas were abolished in June 1991. If your permission to stay in the UK is for more than 6 months and you will be returning to the UK before the permission expires, you do not need any additional documentation.
If your permission to remain in the UK is for 6 months or less and you have an old style visa, your leave will lapse on exit and you will have to apply for leave to enter the UK when in the country you are visiting.
