Overview

The main Coleg Menai campus is in the exciting university city of Bangor with specialized campuses in Parc Menai, Llangefni and Caernarfon.

International students come from all over the world to Coleg Menai with a range of goals. We strive for academic excellence and care of the individual. Coleg Menai offers a wide choice of academic and vocational education and training to around 5000 students including more than 200 students from over 26 different countries. We are a friendly, community college which prides itself on giving individual attention to students and offers a greater flexibility in the course programmes.

Bangor, the learning city of North Wales, is in an area of outstanding natural beauty surrounded by mountains and sea. Our international students are able to study in a safe and beautiful environment, but also have the advantage of being located near larger cities such as Chester, Liverpool and Manchester.

The Coleg Menai International & ESOL Centre is in partnership with the University of Wales, Bangor and students can progress to studies in Bangor or other UK universities.

Academic support: At the college, a personal tutor will be assigned to you and a programme of individual and group tutorials will help support you in your studies. Our tutors are very approachable and are available to give you their expert advice. In addition to this, classes tend to be smaller than university so you can be sure to receive the individual attention you need.

Social support: In addition to academic support, we organise social events and trips for international students in order to help you feel more part of the community. If you have a particular hobby or interest, we can help you join a club at the college or university’s Student Union whether that may be snowboarding, the Indian or Islamic Society or film club etc.

Bangor, the city of learning

Bangor is an ancient, historic Cathedral and University city full of character with a wealth of activities and facilities.

It is situated in a region full of romanticism, mysticism and legends. With rolling green hills, dramatic landscape of waterfalls and mountains, miles of stunning unspoilt coastlines and sandy beaches, North Wales truly is an area of outstanding natural beauty.

The scenic beauty in and around Bangor attracts over 10 million visitors each year. Visitors come to experience the majestic ambiance of North Wales with its magnificent castles, marine wildlife such as dolphins and porpoises and endless outdoor activities.

Indeed, Bangor caters for all- if you are a sporty person, then you will find yourself spoilt for choice by the range of outdoor opportunities such as rugby, sailing, rock-climbing, canoeing, surfing, diving etc. If you prefer shopping, Bangor has one of the longest high streets in Wales with national chain stores such as Marks and Spencer’s and small boutique shops too. Some of the best cities for shopping are also within easy reach- Manchester, Liverpool and Chester. If you are a night owl, Bangor has a number of vibrant cafes and pubs- choose from elegant wine bars to traditional local welsh pubs along the quayside. As Bangor is a city of learning, you will find a number of students out and about at night contributing to its lively young atmosphere.
