Universities, have a
student advice centre
that deals with personal
issues, you wish to
discuss in private with
somebody, for example
questions, you may feel
stressed or homesick,
money issues, health or
relationships, you may
just want a chat, there
are people there to help
and support. |

Religion
If you contact the
Language Schools,
Colleges, or
Universities, prior to
coming to the UK they
can advise you on what
places of worship there
are within the area
including Christian,
Jewish, Islamic, Sikh,
Hindu, and other faiths.
Television Licence
If you are going into
rented accommodation
with friends or family
it’s important that you
get a licence. One of
the peculiarities of the
UK is the Television
Licence. Each premises
is required to have one.
There is a maximum fine
for not having one. To
apply for a licence pick
up the relevant form
from your nearest Post

Council Tax (when
renting)
Is set by local
authorities in England,
Scotland and Wales to
help pay for certain
services they provide
such things as
Libraries, Police, Fire
Brigade. It’s important
to ask your Programme
Administrator whether
you exempt or if its
included in the price of
accommodation, this does
not apply to Short Stay
Students living with

Your Driving Licence
To drive in the UK you
must have a valid
driving licence. Some
national driving
licences are valid for
only 12 months from the
date you arrive in the
UK. |

If you want to carry on
driving after the 12
months, you must apply
for a provisional GB
licence and pass a
driving test before the
12 months elapse. Other
(i.e. EEA licences)
remains valid until the
expiry date and can be
exchanged for a GB

If you want to bring a
car into the UK the
importation of the
vehicle is not
straightforward and
there are many
variations. If you
contact the Vehicle
Registration Office
which will be listed at
the DVLA website listed
under Driving Licences,
they will give you
further information.

that to drive a vehicle
without Insurance
Registration Documents
is illegal and you could
be fined. |

Do not borrow a car
without proper
arrangements for
insurance, also all
parking fines should be
paid promptly. |

Possession of Drugs
The UK has a very strict
regulation regarding the
possession of drugs,
other than those
available for medical
reasons from a chemist
(pharmacy). It is a
serious offence and
could result in
imprisonment or
Deportation to be found
with any illegal
substances.
