Independent Boarding Schools
There are more than 700 independent boarding schools in the UK offering full time education.
The majority are members of the Independent Schools Council (ISC) and are inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) that guarantees the quality of education to see whether the school is part of the scheme.
All schools are registered with the government and have to meet minimum legal requirements for the premises, accommodation and staffing, teaching and students welfare.
It was reported in 2002 by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation Development (OECD), that British Independent Schools achieved the best results of any schools in the world. The tests carried out by OECD on 250,000 15 year olds in 32 different countries proved UK independent schools did far better than their counterparts in other countries.
In Scotland there are 35 boarding schools that fall under a different body, the Scottish Council of Independent Schools (SCIS), and are also subject to curriculum and welfare inspections by the Government Inspectorate.
Colleges have a membership scheme that is run by the Conference For Independent Further (CIFE) and are regularly inspected and accredited by the British Accredited Council (BAC) or the ISC. Child protection measures operate in all accredited colleges and schools.

Sixth Form

The Boarding Schools and Colleges will do everything it can to ensure students prepare for University Life. The overwhelming majority of six-formers will graduate and the schools and colleges will endeavour to place you with the best university that is achievable. As well as A-level proportion, a small number of sixth forms use other accommodation, systems such as International Baccalaureate or CINVQ (vocational A-level) qualifications.

In Scotland the 35 boarding schools usually offer GCSE/A-level courses and the Scottish equivalent, Standard Grade/Higher/Advanced higher courses, which also lead to university.
Work Permits While Studying in the UK Part-Time
As a student with a visa/entry certificate allowing you to re-enter the UK, you should have a restriction sticker or stamp.
The Home Office is about to update the wording "Restriction" which means you are likely to receive a restriction that states that there is "no recourse to public funds" to work, and any changes must be authorised.
"Restrictions" means that it is only students who have this wording on their passports can seek employment, and only work for a set amount of hours. If you are Studying in the UK for longer than 6 months, you will expect to get a restriction on working if your course is shorter than 6 months?
